Unusually cool and unsettled weather can be expected in the Northwest. The latest in a series of cold fronts has moved through bringing with it some of the coolest air of the season.

Temperatures are running below normal for this time of year; expect highs on Thursday in the 40’s and 50’s. Rain and periods of snow can be expected as well. 2-4” of snow is possible with higher elevations receiving more. This type of weather could continue for the remainder of the week.

On the flip side… it is much warmer than normal in the northeast. The jet stream is positioned much farther north than it usually is this time of year. This is allowing for a warm flow of air into the region. Highs on Thursday will be in the low to mid 80’s with a healthy dose of sun!

Tropical moisture in the southeast is providing a daily chance of showers and storms. Some locations along the coast could pick up around an inch of rain. The southwest will see the slight chance for storms for the rest of the week, as well. The subtropical jet is bringing moisture into the area, that combined with daytime heating will spark scattered thunderstorms.

On Thursday, there is a slight risk for severe weather in the upper Midwest. Eastern South Dakota, southern Minnesota, and northern Iowa could see storms containing large hail and gusty winds.
